A series of 7 lectures in the framework “Topics in the Theory of Visual Arts and Photography”
The topic in this series of lectures will be what is (often carelessly) called landscape. We will examine the concept from a historical and theoretical perspective, showing that the space human beings inhabit has not always, and self-evidently, been viewed as an image, that is as an object to be discussed and critically assessed on the basis of aesthetic categories. Photography inevitably holds a prominent place in such a historical and theoretical investigation, since its technology was pivotal in the proliferation of the mode of seeing which the concept of landscape presupposes: the isolation and framing of a part of the whole.
A series of 7 lectures per semester.
Instructors first semester: Andreas Giakoumakatos, Nikos Daskalothanasis, Kostas Ioannidis, Giorgos Xiropaidis
Instructors second semester:Yiorgis Yerolympos, Kostas Ioannidis, Yorgos Karailias, Anthony Hatzimoysis.
Seminar (second semester) begins: February 26, 2018
Application submission period: January 19 – February 8, 2018
